MLS COLD LASER

Science of MLS Laser Therapy

MLS Laser Therapy, through extensive research, has optimized all factors in a Therapeutic Laser providing revolutionary results in considerably reduced treatment times while maintaining complete patient safety.

Our commitment to excellence gave rise to MLS: the Multiwave Locked System, a Class IV patented emission system that synchronizes continuous and pulsed emissions providing well aimed procedures that generate simultaneous anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, and in considerably reduced times with respect to traditional laser therapy. The following table summarizes the main characteristics of MLS:

What is Cold Laser Therapy?

Cold laser is a technique which uses infrared light, which you cannot see or feel, to reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain. The anti-inflammatory effects of the infrared light work at the cellular level. Unlike medications such as cortisone injections and non steroidal anti-inflammatory pills, laser does not suppress inflammation, but rather stimulates your own body’s cells to reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain. This type of therapy is what is commonly referred to regenerative medicine.

Is Cold Laser Therapy covered by insurance?

No. Cold laser therapy is Health Canada approved, safe (no side effects), and has been proven to be effective.

Is Cold Laser Therapy new?

No. The technology and application of cold laser therapy has been used for decades. Initially, cold laser therapy was used in veterinary medicine. After years of clinically proven results, the laser industry has developed laser devices for human use.

What Laser device does Dr. Masson use and are they all the same?

Dr. Masson uses the Cutting Edge MLS cold laser machine. All cold lasers are not the same. The benefit of the Cutting Edge MLS laser is that it utilizes two different wavelengths of infrared light, 808nm and 905nm. The 808nm wavelength reduces inflammation and swelling and the 905nm wavelength has an immediate analgesic effect (pain reduction).

How effective is Cold Laser Therapy?

It has been our experience that 90% of our patients who have had a course of laser treatments reported improvement and/or resolution of pain. Typically, improvement is noted after the first treatment.

What conditions can be treated with Cold Laser Therapy?

Any musculoskeletal inflammatory condition will respond well with Cold Laser Therapy. For example, the common podiatric conditions include plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, bursitis, and arthritis. Nerve injuries and neuropathy can also be treated with Cold Laser Therapy.

How long will pain relief last following Cold Laser Treatments?

This is a hard question to answer as it is variable between patients and different conditions. Remember that Cold Laser Therapy resolves inflammation, pain, and swelling. Once your condition is resolved, it is paramount to prevent re-aggravation/inflammation from activities. For example, a thorough warm up and stretching protocol should be followed to prevent overuse injury during exercise and activity. You will still need to wear appropriate shoes (and orthotics if you have them) avoiding flimsy shoes, sandals, flip flops, etc. If your condition is a structural bone/joint problem, then Cold Laser Therapy cannot resolve that, but can manage the symptoms that are associated with it. Certain conditions such as neuropathy and severe arthritis are only going to be managed with Laser treatments where as other musculoskeletal inflammatory conditions can have permanent resolution of symptoms.

Are there any side effects from Cold Laser Therapy?

Usually No. Typical treatments are two to three times a week for 6-10 sessions. You will need to wait at least 24 hours between treatments as we have found that you will experience soreness if too much Laser therapy is given in one area. Read More (C E Laser)
