What are Warts?

Warts are caused by a viral infection which invades the skin through small or invisible cuts and abrasions. Foot warts are generally raised and fleshy and can appear anywhere on the foot or toes but typically they appear on the bottom (plantar side). They may appear as a single wart (Solitary) or cluster of warts (Mosaic).

Causes

Plantar warts are caused by direct contact with the human papilloma virus (HPV). This is the same virus that causes warts on other areas of the body.

Symptoms

• Burning pain with walking or pressure
• Tiny black dots within the lesion
• Thickened skin or callus formation

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of plantar wart is made clinically upon examination along with your history and symptoms.
